Stop 1 · Stop pre-approved credit and insurance offers
The official site run by the four credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion and Innovis). One request covers all four. About 2 minutes.
- Tap Open the official site. It opens in its own window.
- Tap Click here to opt-in or opt-out.
- Pick Electronic Opt-Out for 5 years, then tap Continue. You’ll have 15 minutes, which is plenty.
- Paste in your name and address from the box above.
- Social Security number and birth date are optional there. They go only to the credit bureaus, never to us.
- Submit. When you see their confirmation, come back here.
Want it permanent instead of 5 years? Pick Permanent Opt-Out by Mail, then print, sign and mail the form.
Stop 2 · Stop sales calls with the National Do Not Call Registry
Free, run by the federal government, and it never expires. Honest companies have to stop calling within 31 days.
- Tap Open DoNotCall.gov.
- Tap Register Your Phone, paste in your phone number and email, and submit.
- Check your email. They send a link. Tap it within 72 hours, or the sign-up doesn’t count.
You’re covered.
Pre-approved offers usually slow down within a few weeks, and sales calls within a month. Mail already on its way may still trickle in.
- On your phone: turn on your carrier’s free spam blocker (Verizon Call Filter, AT&T ActiveArmor or T-Mobile Scam Shield).
- iPhone: Settings, then Phone, then Silence Unknown Callers.
- The data brokers: sign in from your welcome email and tap Peace & Quiet. We’ll send the delete requests for you.
